5th Grade Band begins before school starts with a Summer Band program held the first three weeks of August. Students meet twice a week by section/like instruments for 30 minutes. During the school year, band is considered an "exploratory" class. Students meet by section once a week. Closer to the first performance, members will meet twice a week as a full band (group band), and in their sectional lesson. The 5th Grade Band performs four to five times throughout the school year: November "First Performance", December classroom visits, January Combined performance with MS/HS band at the Elementary Schools Tour assembly, March "Music In Our Schools" month cafeteria concert and a final performance shared with the middle school bands/choir in May.
The focus of this exploratory class is to introduce students to playing a musical instrument in the band setting through a variety of musical experiences.
